Design your slides once

• Export at 1080x1350 (4:5) or 1080x1920 (9:16). Instagram crops carousel slides to 4:5. TikTok and Stories show 9:16 full screen. If you design in 9:16, keep text in the middle 4:5 safe area so the Instagram crop doesn't cut it.
• Use JPEG. Meta's publishing API takes JPEG images. TikTok accepts common image formats, so JPEG works everywhere.
• Stay within slide limits. Instagram carousels allow up to 20 items. TikTok photo posts allow up to 35 images. Most UGC slideshows work best at 4 to 8 slides.
• Put the hook on slide 1. It is the TikTok cover by default, the first carousel slide, and the Story frame when story_slides is first.

Music on TikTok photo posts

TikTok photo posts without sound perform like a muted video. Set auto_music: true and TikTok adds a recommended track, which the creator can change in the app. If you want the creator to pick a trending sound by hand, set draft: true instead and the slideshow goes to their TikTok inbox. When to add Story frames

Stories reach followers who skip the feed. For a hook-plus-list slideshow, posting only the first slide as a Story with the carousel live is a cheap way to drive people to it. Posting all frames turns the Story into a full read, but costs one credit per frame. See Instagram Story API for the tradeoffs.
